Island Gold project: highest-grade intersection redefines Murchison gold system as multi-lode corridor

The Vadrians lode has been the story at Island Gold since the first high-grade hits started coming back. Drilled to over 400 metres depth and more than a kilometre of strike, it was already shaping into one of the more compelling emerging gold systems in the Murchison. Then hole 26IGRC010 landed 120 metres to the west, in a parallel hanging wall position nobody had yet tested, and returned 22m at 66.2 g/t Au from 42m, including 8m at 181 g/t. That is the highest-grade intersection in the project's history, and it did not come from Vadrians.

The intersection sits within a preferentially weathered shear zone directly beneath the near-surface depletion horizon. At 42 metres depth this is shallow, open-pittable ground. The grade, 66.2 g/t over 22 metres with an 8-metre core at 181 g/t, is exceptional by any standard, and it arrived from a structural position that was not part of the existing exploration model.

Three diamond drill holes targeting depth continuity beneath the new zone are currently awaiting assay results. Follow-up RC drilling is planned to recommence imminently. The next round of results will determine whether this intersection represents an isolated high-grade shoot within the parallel structure or the surface expression of a zone with meaningful depth extent.

The geology

The host style at the new zone may be distinct from the BIF-hosted mineralisation that characterises Vadrians. The preferentially weathered shear zone suggests a different structural control, which raises the possibility of multiple mineralisation styles operating across the same corridor. This is not unusual in Archaean greenstone terranes in the Murchison, where parallel shear zones and cross-cutting structures can produce multiple lode positions within a single structural corridor, each with distinct host rock associations and grade distributions.

The distinction matters for resource estimation. If the new zone has a different geological control from Vadrians, it will likely require its own geological domain in any future resource model, with separate grade and continuity assumptions. A single domain across both lodes would risk smearing the grade distribution in ways that could understate the new zone's contribution or overstate continuity between the two structures.

Project trajectory

The shift in interpretation this result forces is the point. Island Gold is no longer being modelled as a single-lode system. It is now a multi-lode corridor, with the question no longer being whether parallel structures exist, but how many there are and how far they extend.

Caprice Resources is advancing toward a maiden Mineral Resource Estimate within a 50,000-metre program. The company holds $16.5 million in cash following the recent Chobe divestment. The exploration runway is funded, and the program scope is large enough to test both the Vadrians lode at depth and the new parallel zone's extent along strike and down dip.

What this means for the sector

A multi-lode gold system in the Murchison with bonanza-grade intersections at shallow depth and a funded exploration program is the kind of project that generates sustained drilling newsflow over the next 12 to 18 months. Each hole into the new zone will either confirm or narrow the scope of the parallel structure, and each result will feed directly into the maiden resource estimate.

For the broader district, the result reinforces a pattern that has been playing out across the Murchison and wider Yilgarn: established gold corridors with decades of mining history are still yielding new discoveries when modern exploration programs test structural positions that historical mining left untouched. The geological talent required to interpret these results, design follow-up programs, and build the structural models that underpin resource estimates is the same constrained pool of experienced exploration geologists that every active gold project in the region is competing for.
